Skylake is Intel’s latest generation of CPU’s to hit market. This new family of CPU’s has some must-have improvements. Overall it’s not as large of a jump in speed as we’ve seen in some prior upgrades but is still definitely worth your time.

Here are some very brief highlights on the new stuff. Desktop versions of this Intel core offer upgraded integrated graphics allowing for up to three 4K monitor support. Mobile devices are starting to offer 4K video so it’s good news that Skylake for mobile has 11 times better integrated graphics performance and handles 4K transcoding about 6 times faster… not bad.

Another huge benefit is power efficiency. On the mobile end of things your device will be using 60% less power even though the CPU and process around 60% more. Desktops also will be seeing a large savings in power consumption with Intel’s Speed Shift Technology.
